Pavel Pevzner, my graduate advisor, was honored with UCSD Faculty Excellence Award 2007. In the press coverage, he very briefly talks about what bioinformatics is, and why it is important. I liked his last remark, when asked about what keeps him excited:
There are so many new problems and so many unsolved puzzles. So it’s hard, not to get excited!
He means it when he says that. Surprisingly, no mention of mass spectrometry! But then, there is only so much you can talk about in a couple of minutes.
